Guest article by Wille Eerola, Honorary Consul General of Pakistan in Finland and Chairman of the Finland Pakistan Business Council.
Pakistan is emerging as an increasingly interesting market for Finnish mining technology and expertise. In this guest article, Wille Eerola looks at the opportunities developing in the country and the upcoming Pakistan Mineral Investment Forum and Finland Pakistan Business Summit in November 2026.
Strong growth opportunities for the mining sector in Pakistan
Pakistan is currently one of Finland’s fastest-growing export markets, with the country’s developing mining cluster playing an important role in this growth. Major Finnish companies such as Metso and Wärtsilä are already active in the market, while several smaller companies are exploring opportunities related to Pakistan’s numerous new mining projects.
The potential for further cooperation is significant, and the coming months offer Finnish mining companies several opportunities to establish connections and explore the market.
Finland Pakistan Business Summit – 16–17 November
The Finland Pakistan Business Summit (FPBS) will bring Finnish companies to Islamabad and Karachi on 16–17 November 2026.
Now organised for the 14th time, this year’s Summit will also coincide with an official ministerial-level visit. Jarno Syrjälä, State Secretary at Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, will join the delegation.
FPBS is designed around the needs of participating companies. The programme includes identifying relevant companies and decision-makers, arranging meetings, and providing practical support before and during the visit, allowing participating companies to focus on developing their business and relationships in the market.
Pakistan Mineral Investment Forum – 12–13 November
The week before FPBS, Pakistan will host the Pakistan Mineral Investment Forum (PMIF) in Islamabad on 12–13 November 2026.
The event is expected to bring together more than 5,000 participants and over 500 international mining-sector representatives and stakeholders.
For Finnish mining companies, plans are being developed for a joint Finland Pavilion, providing a shared platform for showcasing Finnish mining expertise at the event.
In addition to participation at PMIF, follow-up discussions can be arranged for Finnish companies in Islamabad after the event. Companies continuing to the Finland Pakistan Business Summit would also have opportunities for meetings in Karachi, where many of Pakistan’s largest companies have their headquarters.
With the Dubai Mining Show taking place immediately afterwards, companies already travelling to the region may also consider combining the events.
Building connections early
Mining projects develop over long time horizons, which makes early market engagement, relationship-building and visibility particularly important.
For Finnish mining technology and service companies interested in Pakistan, the November programme provides an opportunity to explore the market, meet relevant stakeholders and begin developing the relationships needed for future business.
